Objectives (based on the FL State Sunshine Standards)
1. Physical Development – basic motor skills, sport skills and physical fitness development.
2. Social and Emotional Development – self-control,self confidence, leadership skills, cooperative
skills, respect for individual differences, and a healthy attitude toward competition.
3. Fun! To ensure continued participation for a life-long appreciation of physical activity.
K4 – 2nd Grade Curriculum
Basic Movement Activities: Body parts; spatial awareness; locomotor skills; body control (stopping, starting, dodging, tagging, etc.)
Beginning Sports Skills: Basic kicking, throwing, catching and hitting skills
Manipulatives: Ball handling skills; jump rope activities; beanbag and hoop skills.
Rhythmic Activities: Creative movement; musical activity games; basic dance experiences.
Physical Fitness Activities: Warm-up and exercise experiences; vigorous game play; developmental
climbing activities.
Traditional Game Play: Competitive and non-competitive; lead-up games to sports related activities.
3rd – 5th Grade Curriculum
Combined Motor Skills: Lead-up and introductory games to sports’ skills activities including
soccer, football, basketball, softball, and kickball.
Individual and Self-challenging Activities: Manipulative activities such as juggling, hoops, and jump rope skills.
Physical Fitness Activities: Warm-up and exercise experiences; vigorous game play.
Rhythmic Activities: Musical activities.
Traditional and Innovative Game Play: Competitive activities and co-operative game skills.
6th – 8th Grade Curriculum
Combined Motor Skills: Traditional and modified sports skills activities including soccer, football, basketball, softball, and kickball.
Individual and Self-challenging Activities: Manipulative activities such as juggling, hacky sack, hoops, and jump rope skills.
Physical Fitness Activities: Warm-up and exercise experiences; vigorous game play.
Rhythmic Activities: Musical activities.
Traditional and Innovative Game Play: Competitive and co-operative game play with opportunities for developing strategies and game adaptations.
